Profile
Linguaphone Group
Headquartered in London, England, the Linguaphone Group is the world's leading provider of assisted learning and distance learning language training solutions &has over 100 years of experience in language training and an extensive network of licensed partners operating under the internationally recognised Linguaphone brand name.
History
Established in 1901, by Jack Roston, the translator and the famous linguistic professor, who emigrated from Poland then part of Russia, at the turn of the century, and set up in business in High Holborn, London.
Roston was one of the first pioneers to recognise the potential for language teaching using Edison's invention of sound recording (1877) and Alexander Graham Bell's development of wax cylinders (1888).
The first Linguaphone courses, intended initially as classroom aids for language teachers, combined authentic native speech with the illustrated texts of the Rees Pictorial Language books. These Mr Roston acquired, together with the International Linguaphone Company and the Rees Linguaphone records, then on cylinders. By adding to the range of languages and skillfully promoting the distinctive Linguaphone name, Roston created a new and intriguing product of wide appeal both to the home-study hobbyist and the growing band of travellers to the continent and beyond.
Linguaphone was the pioneer of self-study language learning. We were the first to recognise the potential of combining the traditional written course with the wax cylinder and later records. Linguaphone courses allowed language learners to study at their own pace using books and original recordings supported by Linguaphone's proven methodology 'Listen, Understand, Speak'. In both the classroom and via its self-study programmes, Linguaphone has played a dominant role in language-learning across the globe ever since. Our international network has always included a selection of subsidiary, joint venture and third-party distribution companies. The network was first expanded during the 1930s and today Linguaphone sells its products in over 60 countries.
The Linguaphone language learning method is undoubtedly the most popular method of self-instruction, having enabled over 100,000,000 people to master another language since it was founded more than 100 years ago.
With over 100 years of experience, we know that anybody who can speak one language has the ability to learn another. Our proven method Listen, Understand, Speak has helped over 100 million people learn a new language in a natural and effective way to start speaking a foreign language.
From basic phrases through to fluent conversation, you'll be surprised at how quickly a second language becomes second nature.
And whether you're learning for holidays, business, travel or education, you can be sure there's a course to suit you. With an exciting range of brand new products, you can learn via your PC, on the move, relaxing on the beach or more traditionally at home - whatever suits you best.
Linguaphone will continue to seek to provide the learner with a range of complimentary options for online and off-line study.
Our self-study language courses can take you from the basics to full fluency. We have a range of courses for different levels - depending on how much you wish to learn, your previous knowledge and your budget. Millions of families are grateful for Linguaphone for many reasons, mainly that every family is now capable of having its own classroom right at home, with the follow up by the “Student Support Department” that consists of specialists in the field of languages through our branches around the world.
